A short history of my photography career.
Photography has always been an interest of mine but I never considered it as a career until 2005. At that time, tired of the 9 to 5 professional world, I started looking for a way to work for myself. I stumbled upon an ad for a business for sale named The Sports Section based in Marysville, Ohio. It was a volume photography franchise with a focus on youth sports.
After many discussions with franchise management and considering my connections to the local youth sports leagues I decided to make the leap to a new career. I focused my operations in Licking and Franklin Counties and have been busy ever since. After a few years of ownership The Sports Section decided to expand their business to schools and other volume opportunities. As to not be seen as “just a sports oriented business”, they re-branded to simply TSS Photography.
While not exactly artwork the volume photography business requires you to capture high quality, properly exposed images, and deliver them to customers quickly. It’s a competitive and hectic business. It’s can also be a lot of fun. I’ve made so many friends from TSS HQ management, to the many franchise owners across the country, to league directors and school administrators. I’ve been very fortunate.
While continuing to work TSS my focus is shifting towards portrait work, real estate, and travel photography. Maybe a little less hectic. In any event I will continue my photography venture for the years to come.
